Welcome, we’re so glad that you’ve found our little corner of the travel blogging universe. We’re a family of 6 passionate wanderlusters who love nothing more than sharing what we learn and discover. Our goal is to inspire YOU to start planning your own family adventures.
We have been traveling with our kids since they were babies. We won’t lie to you, there are certainly days on the road that we want to pull our hair out or are begging for 5 minutes of whine free time, but don’t we all have those days at home too? (please tell us we’re not the only ones!) We’ve always said that we didn’t want having kids to stop us from living our lives so we’ve decided to embrace the little extra work, extra planning and extra chaos so we can explore this world together.
Not only have we been able to keep doing what we love (yes we have dragged them along on wine tastings in France and up countless mountains), but we have found that traveling has provided our kids with so many benefits. Increased confidence, a willingness to try new things, getting out of their comfort zone, opening up their eyes to different cultures and ways of doing things; traveling as a family can have so many positive impacts on kids, even if they don’t specifically remember that trip to Costa Rica…and there’s been plenty of research done by actual experts (like with PhDs) to prove it.
Our goal is to inspire other families to pack up your bags and hit the road…sharing ideas for fun places to take the kids, stories of our adventures and what works for us to rein in the chaos and turn up the fun. We are a New England based family so follow along if you have ever dreamt of summers on the coast of Maine or leaf-peeping in New Hampshire but fear not, you will also find plenty of our adventures across the US (in our recently bought RV) and around the globe; outdoor adventure travel is our jam but we like to mix in a little history and culture here and there as well.
We are also very passionate about travel with food allergies. Our son has numerous food allergies and we’re determined to not let that stop him from exploring the world. If you find yourself or someone you travel with in that same boat, you’ve come to the right place for tips for traveling with food allergies and our first-hand experiences dealing with allergies in various destinations.
Meet Our Travel Squad!
Charlotte
The main voice behind this little family travel blog…I was born in Belgium, moved to the US at the age of 6 and caught the travel bug after a 3-week trip to Ecuador in high school. I typically describe myself as an outgoing introvert who is happiest being in the mountains, eating delicious food or with my head buried in a good book.
Favorite travel memory: diving with hammerheads in the Galapagos
Top bucket list destination: Iceland
Strict schedule or go with the flow: go with the flow
City or National Park: National Park
Steve
Daddy, the one who holds it all together…a proud Canadian, Steve moved to the US to play college hockey and stayed because of the girl he met while there. He can talk the ear off of a brick wall, can never sit still and is always up for tackling just about any challenge (or at least trying to).
Most fearless thing he’s done: hike Angel’s Landing (he’s not a fan of heights)
Dream vacation spot: New Zealand
Plane, train, car or boat: Boat
Travel must-have: Shaker Bottle
H (11)
Our tomboy, this girl thinks she knows everything, that she’s always right and is stubborn as a mule but this girl has a heart of gold (just don’t tell her that). She may act older than she is but she’s always the first one to jump in and help when we ask as long as she’s not busy building one of her giant lego sets.
Favorite activity: Hiking
Top bucket list destination: Spain
Most interesting food tasted: escargot
Mountains or beach: mountains
E (11)
Our social butterfly who loves nothing more than a good outfit and hanging out with her friends. Sweet as can be but also full of sass, this girl can be found doing cartwheels or practicing her dance moves anytime, anywhere. She loves the spotlight but is also not afraid to get a little dirty and can be guaranteed to be leading the hike every time.
Where she’d most like to live: Florida
Favorite Activity: Going to the beach
Swim with dolphins or shark diving: dolphins
Dream travel experience: Eating tacos in Mexico
G (8)
Our quiet but fierce one, our girl may be shy but she is never afraid to try new things (except foods, she’d be happy to stick to pizza daily) and is often showing up her older sisters by being the first do something. She may speak quietly but she has a lot of big opinions and has a serious silly streak.
Favorite activity: skiing
Favorite place so far: Disney World
Beach or mountains: beach
Can’t travel without: Big bunny, narwhal and unicorn
Baby Z (2)
Our youngest and only boy, baby Z is such a smily guy and is happy to just go with the flow most of the time. Allergic to dairy, wheat, egg and tree nuts and more, this guy is leading us on an adventure of managing food allergies while traveling.
Can’t travel without: epi pens
Favorite activity: splashing in water
First trip was to: Belgium and France
Favorite travel buddy: mom and dad
